How do i avoid poofy, split hair?

I get a haircut about every 6 weeks and i still have split ends... I have to wash my hair daily otherwise my scalp is to oily to deal with... i also flat iron and blow dry to avoid my hair standing up on end... is there any balance to achieve soft healthy non poofy hair?

How do i avoid poofy, split hair?

here's some tips on how to avoid split ends....

1. Don't brush your hair too much, and be sure to use brushes and combs with smooth, wide-set teeth; avoid nylon bristles.

2. And no matter what, don't brush wet hair! If you have knots, use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers to gently detangle from the ends up, one section at a time.

3. Elastic bands -- even the covered ones -- and barrettes can cause breakage.

4. If you put your hair in a ponytail, use a scrunchie; when wearing barrettes, take care not to catch hair in the metal clip.

5. Avoid excess heat.

6. Some hair types are naturally prone to split ends so have an extra care.

Of course, a trim will rid you of split ends instantly. In the meantime, a split-end treatment, a leave-in conditioner with light hold or a pomade applied to the ends can temporarily seal the splits. Lee Cohen from Reds salon in Cairns recommends Schwarzkopf's bc bonacure 'Sealed Ends'.

What ever you do, if you want to keep your hair long, don't ignore split ends because, as they split they also break away, meaning that your hair is in effect getting shorter every time you brush it!

good luck!

the flat iron and blow dryer is what is causing it. you have to use heat serums for protection while your hair is damp to prevent damage.

Eat healthy foods to give that hair of yours a natural glow. When washing your hair use cold water. Don't iron and blow dry all the time because that is what always brings out split ends. My suggestion about that poofy hair of yours, get it rebonded. Trust me I am Asian and I have long black straight non-split ended hair, because I eat a lot of proteins. Proteins by the way also gives hair that healthy glow.

You wash your hair because your scalp is oily ....

I'm missing something here.

I brush my hair to distribute the oil along the length of the hair. When my scalp gets too oily, I scrub my scalp and rinse my hair.

This is in the category of "If it's not broke, don't fix it."

Relocating some of that scalp oil onto the hair itself should make it more manageable.

Brush, brush, brush.
